Moving:
A word of advice for anyone who ever wants to move anywhere: Don't move during a snow storm, unless you absolutely have to. Yesterday was our big move day, and it just so happened to be during the first real snow storm of the year. We woke up early in the morning and saw clear blue skies. We were optimistic. Then about 10, when we were starting, we got a call from one of our friends who was going to come down from Draper to help us. He was calling to tell us he wouldn't be coming because he was basically snowed in. Oh crap, that means it's coming this way. HURRY! Get everything out before it hits! That is what our conversations turned to.
We used two little cars to move boxes with, our 4runner and a friend's Tahoe for the big things. We were able to get everything inside one of these vehicles except for the box springs of our bed. This we tied to the top of the Tahoe. We rushed over to our new apartment and unloaded, just as the snow started picking up pretty bad. After that we were able to keep all our belongings safe by fitting them inside the vehicles, we just couldn't keep our bodies safe from getting colds and snow in the eyes. It took about three trips altogether to get all the big and main stuff over here. We have taken a few more trips with un-boxed things after that. And will continue to do so. There is not a lot left, but our computers are there and our storage room stuff. For the most part, we are moved. We are not looking forward to the cleaning however. But we have until Thursday, which is when our landlord will come by to check us out. Don't you think if you were getting checked out halfway through the month, you should only have to pay rent for half the month? Me too. But all she said was "we'll see." Yeah. Maybe we'll have to throw some parties in there later this month if she doesn't give us our rent back. Make sure her daughter isn't sneaking in yet.
Missing:
We have decided upon moving to this new apartment that there are some things we are going to miss about our old place.
1. Freezing all the time. We paid utilities, there were only two heater vents in the house, one in the spare bedroom and one in the kitchen. Yeah, not in the living room or our bedroom. We had no control over turning these on or off, the girls upstairs did that. And they seem to be in the habit of turning the heat on from about midnight till 5am. Off the rest of the time. Bad.
2. Only having one electrical outlet per room. With the exception of the living room where we had two sockets, but if you had things turned on in both of these sockets at the same time, it would short out. Or, basically any other combination of two or more sockets being used would also short it out.
3. Having big holes in the ceiling where the paint has fallen down and the landlord never remembered to come and fix it. It was a beauty.
4. Hearing the single girls upstairs throw their multiple parties a week. All of which consisted of screaming and running throughout the house, being sure to stomp as hard as humanly possible on their way by.
5. The ever so unique light fixtures. Some were hand-painted, some would turn on sometimes. One more modern one located above the kitchen sink, was installed nicely except for one thing. They forgot to install a light switch. Or any type of tool to turn the lights on or off. In order to accomplish this goal of turning lights on/off, you must screw the lightbulb in or out, remembering the righty-tighty and lefty loosy rule. Be careful when turning it off, it could burn ya!
6. The oven that cooked our food half and half. But I have already posted about this one.
7. Using the back of the toilet as counter space. With no cabinets, drawers, shelves, or anything of any kind in the bathroom to put things, we had to use the back of our toilet to hold regular toiletries. Except toilet paper, we did have a TP holder on the wall.
8. Having to choose between hot water or cold water. Our bathroom sink was created in the stone age and has one faucet for cold water, and a separate faucet for hot water. If you decided you wanted warm water to wash your hands, you had to plug the sink and mix the two. Or jump in the shower.
Getting:
Last night we had our ward Christmas party. It was quite great. We came home with a full lasagna (being on the activities committee, helping to clean up warrant us taking home food), salad, a Christmas decoration we won in a raffle, and two TV dinner trays/end tables! We got those in the white elephant gift exchange. I have to say it was quite perfect, seeing as the only furniture we have now, besides our bedroom set, is a luv sac. So now we have both end tables sitting next to the luv sac. This gives us a place to put the remotes and food while we eat on our luv sac. (We have no table, no chairs, only a luc sac). Pretty lucky of us, don't you think?
