BYU

Below is an email I received today from BYU: "Congratulations! We’re excited you’ll be arriving soon at Brigham Young University . We are the Office of First-Year Experience , and we are here to help make your transition to BYU as smooth as possible. We would like to share with you some important information and helpful hints before you arrive on campus. This is the first of four “Did You Know?” emails we’ll be sending your way before the semester begins." I thought I was graduating in a couple of weeks....from college, not high school. Maybe I've been wrong this whole time!

A couple of days of randomness

I have a couple stories from the past couple days I thought would be fun to share. Yesterday I had a job interview!!! It is for my boss's job at Independent Study. She is having a baby, so I want her job. We shall see how that turns out. After the interview I was waiting in the parking lot for Jarom to come pick me up. While I was waiting there, a lost traveler asked me for directions to the Wilkenson parking lot. I told her to take a right out of the parking lot, then a right at the stop light, and blah blah blah. She thanked my and proceeded on her trek. I then became aware of why she was lost. She took a left out of the parking lot. Not a right, a left. I said right. One left does not equal two rights. It must be hard to get places if you get your lefts and rights mixed up. Poor lady. Yesterday we also decided to drive up to view an apartment that is for rent. We are getting kicked out of ours since our landlord's daughter wants to live there. It is kind of funny cuz m...
Thanks to a fellow blogger, I found out about an amazing sale today at Albertson's. The sale was if you buy one Sara Lee pumpkin, apple, or cherry pie, you receive another one free, PLUS two cartons of Breyers ice cream. Quite the deal, yes? I thought so too. So I rushed to Albertson's today after class since the sale ends tomorrow. I was worried about there not being any left, but I was lucky enough to find two cherry pies left, pushed back against the wall on the bottom shelf. Not to worry, their expiration dates aren't until July 2009. I picked out my two favorite ice creams, and off I was to the register. I thought I was so frugal when my $6.40 total rang up. When I got home, we decided to partake of our new bounty. We promptly threw one pie in the freezer, and opened the other. I always thought that this was how pies were supposed to look.. . Mmmm, looks tasty, doesn't it? Wait until you see what ours looked like! Mmmm, fresh out of the box! No, that green ...

A Night in the Life of the Decker's

I wish to write about our night last night. It came with a few interesting..quirks. First, we found out just how un-sound proof our ceiling is. Apparently one of the girls upstairs has turned nocturnal, because all night long she was texting on her phone. She even had the phone on vibrate, but we could hear every time the phone vibrated through the ceiling. This happened every 2-3 minutes for about... 6 hours. Jarom never could fall asleep, so at 1 am he gave up and left. I would feel bad complaining to them though, because she really wasn't being inconsiderate. I 'm sure she had no idea that the people under her could hear her vibrating phone. But we could. The second weird thing was a dream that I had. I often have weird dreams. Sometimes they are pretty scary, sometimes they make no sense. I'm sure everyone can relate. Last night I had a dream about a monstrous, ginormous, furry bee. It flew into our bedroom. It was probably a quarter of a foot big. And fat. And fuzzy. A...

Anyone want to buy a dual heating oven?

Yesterday I made cinnamon rolls. I was able to get them most of the way done before I had to leave, so I asked Jarom to finish and put them in the oven for me so they'd be done by the time I got back. We were bringing them to my brother's house for dinner. When I got back home, this is how Jarom greeted me. "Hey! I always thought it was just your cooking, but I think it might be the OVEN'S fault that food burns all the time." ... Jarom still doesn't see anything wrong with this sentence. I only hope I am not the only one out there who thinks there are so many better ways this could have been phrased. He then proceeded to explain how he came to this new conclusion. He put two pans of cinnamon rolls in the oven at the same time. One on the right, one on the left. He put the oven 50 degrees under what the recipe said, and cooked it for half the time. (This is something we always have to do in order to keep our baked foods edible.) When he pulled them out, all ...

Stalkernet: A Tool or a Weapon?

Right now I am taking a weird Music of Persia class. It consists of about 8 people, and once a week we all sit around playing weird Persian instruments. (Yes, I know it is lame, but come on. This is my last semester and I didn't want hard classes). There are only like 2 or 3 people who actually can play and follow along the notes. The rest of the people hit about 1 note for every 20. We sound terrible. But that is okay, easy "A" right? Last night, instead of having normal class, my teacher wanted us to go to a concert where people who play these instruments professionally would be performing. It's really just because my teacher was performing and probably wanted his students to oogle over his talent. Here is the problem, the concert was in Salt Lake City. I had no interest in spending 4 hours of my night driving to and from this concert that I didn't even want to attend anyway, spend $40 in gas for my gas guzzler, and hate my life. So I decided not to go. Esp...
