Has anyone noticed the terrible weather that set in a couple weeks ago and hasn't left yet? Unfortunately for us, it has greatly altered our Christmas plans. With a late start to winter, I feel it is making up for lost time by constantly snowing and snowing and blowing and icing all the day long. We were planning on leaving bright and early Tuesday morning to drive up to Washington for Christmas. But Monday it did nothing but dump snow everywhere, and Tuesday most of the highways were closed down that we need to take to get to Washington. So guess where we are now? Still HERE in PROVO. Ugh Provo. So this is the first time I spent Christmas in Provo. Right now our plans are to try again this Sunday when a minute break in the weather is looking somewhat hopeful. Luckily we do have some family here in Utah, so we were able to spend the day with my sibling and his wife, and then got dinner from my uncle and his family. Here are some pictures of how our Christmas went.
We got each other watches...this was not planned.
We smiled while opening presents.
There was lots and lots of snow.
You can't really tell here because it's a still shot, but this car is sliding sideways through the snow. We went to a parking lot and spun donuts and slid around sideways. We are taking the picture through the window of our 4Runner, which is rear-wheel drive and is really easy to spin donuts in.
The funny part is that we were fine this whole time, until we decided we were done and tried to leave the parking lot. We went through the huge dip that Utah puts in driveways as part of drainage, and we didn't make it out the other side. We pushed and shoved and grunted, and finally a nice man with a tow rope had to come pull us out backwards. We then had to gun it at an angle to make it through without getting stopped. I took no pictures of this moment though, because it was kind of stressful.
The rest of the day was peaceful and full of food. I got a new recipe for a drink called slush, can't wait to try it out. We're hoping to have a second Christmas next week, if we can just get to Washington. Maybe we'll start a new tradition of opening presents for New Years.
