One-Year!

Today marks my ONE-YEAR Anniversary!!! No, not of my wedding, that's May 4th. Today is exactly one year after the fateful day that I broke my finger playing volleyball. I shall recap for those who haven't heard...
We were playing volleyball, at the horrible Colony net. Never play volleyball there. (We hadn't graduated to bigger and better things quite yet.) So I was in the center position at the net, and I jumped up for the ball, at the same time my tall friend Steve! also jumped. And swung. At the ball. And missed (the ball). Instead he cleanly came into contact with....my index finger! Straight down, jamming it down, down, into my palm. Okay, that's a little dramatic. Anyways, I think all I said was ouch. He promptly grabbed my finger and pulled it out, popping it, thinking that would make it feel better. I just thought it was jammed. So I decided to keep playing. You'd think I would have gotten the clue, when I couldn't stand still, had to keep pacing to keep from crying, my finger was instantly swollen and unbendable, and I just held it close to my body, only hitting the ball with my left hand. I must have looked pretty pathetic. Well I only lasted until the end of that game, and decided that since the pain hadn't gone away yet, I might as well quit. As soon as I did, the tears (of pain) began to flow. So we went home.
The next day I was feeling better, I just couldn't bend, or touch, my finger. Jarom assured me that if it was broken, I would KNOW it was broken. So I figured, Well, it can't be broken then, cuz I sure don't know it. Apparently he experiences broken bones differently than I do...
Five days later (cough), I was talking to my friend at work about it. We were commenting about how I still couldn't bend it, and how the bruising was now spreading to my palm. With a bit of help from her, I decided to go the health center, just to make sure there wasn't anything wrong with it.
They take x-rays, and to my dismay, inform me that I've done some serious damage to my poor finger. They tell me I have to go to a specialist, who is now closed cuz it's 5. So the next day I get into contact with him, and he tells me to come in a week and he'll decided if I need surgery or not. (The health center had faxed him copies of my x-rays, you'd think he'd be able to decide then). So the following week I go in, he takes more x-rays, and says, YEP! It's sure broken! So this is what we'll do, we'll either try to clamp it and drill pins in from the side, or we'll slit you open and just do it internally. yummy.
The following week I am scheduled for surgery, and June 21 I go in for that fateful day. (20 days after breaking it, keep in mind). The surgery went fine, I didn't even get sick from the anesthesia. But then, they gave me Perkiset. Don't ever take Perkiset, it is the devil. I was fine for a couple hours, Jarom took me home and I was resting. But then it hit. From that moment on for the next 48 hours, I was constantly throwing up. I felt dizzy just from watching TV, and slept most of the day, in between hurling of course. We finally started to realize, it's probably the pain killer, so I stopped taking it. At the point, the nurse called me to see how I was doing. I informed her of my pitiful situation, so she prescribed some anti-nausea stuff to help. So, being a fool, I went and got some. I then put this into my system as well, and had to wait another 8 hours before everything was out of my system and I could leave the bathroom floor. (I think I even fell asleep in there for awhile) Yeah, the pain of my finger was MUCH easier to bear than the pain of pain killers.
The next few months I worked on gaining movement and reducing swelling. My doctor said it was a very good surgery, that the pins were in very tightly and strongly. The saddest part was, I had to sit on the sidelines and read Harry Potter while everyone played volleyball in front of me...for months. Summer months. sigh. But I did eventually start playing again, and have been ever since. I'm just a bit more shy about blocking these days....
And now you know all about my anniversary! Sorry, no pictures this time. Though I did pick up the charming nickname of "Football Finger" from my sister-in-law's little brother. Yeah....

Ah, yes. I remember you reading Harry Potter very vividly now. And I remember I gave you several "alternate endings" while I was playing.

Curb Appeal Galore

This post is to document the journey our outside of our house has been on over the last few years. A lot of these projects I took on this summer, and a few I did earlier. I am so happy with where we are currently at, but still have some plans before it's finished. So, here is what it looked like the day we bought the house. Seven years ago. Don't let the "grass" fool you. It's just weeds. And the ugly brown window trims paired with the ridiculously old glass in the windows and the green brick with maroon grout. Not too pretty. We have since painted the door, trim, and replaced the windows. Also replaced the porch light and house numbers.  This spring we also had a new concrete half circle driveway installed. We live on a busy street and our front yard is useless and our driveway is tiny. So now we have much more functionality, less weeds, and overall happiness. After the driveway was installed, I also ripped out the rest of the grass and installed some decorative...

Things I've learned about babies

These are things I never realized or knew about babies that I have learned since having one of my own! -Babies are grimy. I still don't understand how they can get so dirty. How did you get all this dirt under your fingernails!? You can't even DO anything with your fingers! -You know that soft spot on their head? You can totally see their heartbeat in it sometimes. It's kind of disconcerting. -Once you finally figure out some type of routine or normalcy......it changes. -Apparently babies can still "bite" their tongues, even though they don't have teeth. I guess technically they're gumming their tongue? Which doesn't sound too painful, but when a red pinched blood vessel looking thing shows up on the tip of your baby's tongue, you realize that it might be a bit painful. -Babies have to be pretty tough, they experience a lot of pain! From being born (it just can't feel great being squeezed through a birth canal), to teething...for mont...

Good and Bad Discoveries of the Week

This week we have discovered the secret to life in Provo!! I am serious, it's the best thing ever, and everyone who lives in or near Provo, must take advantage of this secret to life. 1. Go to the Winsong movie theater 2. Purchase a ticket for "Take" (preferably Matinee) 3. Preferably, do not watch this movie because it is a waste of time. But if you have nothing better to do with yourself, go ahead and watch it. 4. Take your movie stub to the dollar theater located by Costco in Orem 5. Finally, enjoy UNLIMITED free movies at this theater. That's right, I said UNLIMITED FREE MOVIES at the dollar theater. I know this sounds to good to be true, but it is oh so true. I have done it, and it works. Last night, we watched a free Indiana Jones from this movie ticket. It was amazing. The movie Take is pretty worthless, but the reward is priceless. Ok, so on to the bad discoveries of the week. I have recently become aware of the advantages and disadvantages that tag along with...
