Horrible Utah Drivers

Over the past few months we have become increasingly aware of how horrible most of the drivers are around here. I've gotten to the point where everyday I fear for my life everyday and am amazed that I make it home unscathed. I think the drivers here are so bad because they are not only aggressive, but also oblivious. They act as if they are the only car on the road. So here are a few examples:

1. Just two nights ago we witnessed a car accident. We were stopped at a red light, and then the perpendicular street to us got the green. Everyone started going, including the person in the left turn lane who is supposed to yeild to oncoming traffic. And so he hit the first person who came through the light. Right in front of us. Then they stayed there for a few minutes, while all the rest of traffic just kept on going around them. Not one person stopped for them to be able to move and get out of the middle of the intersection! I was just waiting for another accident to happen. Luckily nothing more happened.

2. Jarom was filling up the car with gas, at a gas station. He got in the car and started to pull forward to leave. It is around 7am. In comes another car, who decided that morning that it just wasn't important enough for her to scrape her entire windshield. Instead she just scraped an itty bitty hole around her eyeball to see through. Who could have guessed that that would end up impeding her sight. She didn't even see Jarom, in a 4Runner, which is much bigger than her puny car. Not even his headlights, which would be shining directly into her eyes, since he is up higher than her. She came right for him, head on. All he could do was wait. Luckily, she saw him right before she hit him, and the accident was avoided. Stupid girl.

3.I have many, many more stories to tell, but must keep this limited, especially since I took so much time drawing you a picture to depict this next one. I still cannot believe what I saw happen. To help you understand it better, all the cars on the right, facing up, are stopped at a red light. There is a gap, because we stopped to let the car on the left turn through us. I am the green car. I made a before and after shot for you. Pay special attention to the red car in the middle. Please be aware that the red car had been stopped, and then decided to go, after the purple car started turning. We all ended up blocked in, for a long time.

Even though I'm from Utah, I always thought the driving in Provo was a bit too crazy too. But I have now discovered that sucky drivers exist everywhere. Out here in CT the crappy drivers are from Massachusetts. They leave their brights on all the time (blinding you every time you go over a hill) and tail you almost bumper to bumper even if you're going 5 or 10 over the speed limit. This was a long way of saying I sympathize and hopefully someday you guys will live somewhere with better drivers. If you do, let me know where it is :).

Gina! You are super sweet, but next time, don't let the person cross. To be honest, most of the time, the drivers in the other two lanes next to you, can't even begin to see the person turning and the ticket goes to the person turning no matter what. Sad for them I think.
How do I know this, you may ask?.... Cause I was once the person turning. After that, I don't let anyone cross traffic in front of me. Just too dangerous for all parties.

p.s. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU! There are some pretty horrible drivers in Utah!

Curb Appeal Galore

This post is to document the journey our outside of our house has been on over the last few years. A lot of these projects I took on this summer, and a few I did earlier. I am so happy with where we are currently at, but still have some plans before it's finished. So, here is what it looked like the day we bought the house. Seven years ago. Don't let the "grass" fool you. It's just weeds. And the ugly brown window trims paired with the ridiculously old glass in the windows and the green brick with maroon grout. Not too pretty. We have since painted the door, trim, and replaced the windows. Also replaced the porch light and house numbers.  This spring we also had a new concrete half circle driveway installed. We live on a busy street and our front yard is useless and our driveway is tiny. So now we have much more functionality, less weeds, and overall happiness. After the driveway was installed, I also ripped out the rest of the grass and installed some decorative...

Things I've learned about babies

These are things I never realized or knew about babies that I have learned since having one of my own! -Babies are grimy. I still don't understand how they can get so dirty. How did you get all this dirt under your fingernails!? You can't even DO anything with your fingers! -You know that soft spot on their head? You can totally see their heartbeat in it sometimes. It's kind of disconcerting. -Once you finally figure out some type of routine or normalcy......it changes. -Apparently babies can still "bite" their tongues, even though they don't have teeth. I guess technically they're gumming their tongue? Which doesn't sound too painful, but when a red pinched blood vessel looking thing shows up on the tip of your baby's tongue, you realize that it might be a bit painful. -Babies have to be pretty tough, they experience a lot of pain! From being born (it just can't feel great being squeezed through a birth canal), to teething...for mont...

Good and Bad Discoveries of the Week

This week we have discovered the secret to life in Provo!! I am serious, it's the best thing ever, and everyone who lives in or near Provo, must take advantage of this secret to life. 1. Go to the Winsong movie theater 2. Purchase a ticket for "Take" (preferably Matinee) 3. Preferably, do not watch this movie because it is a waste of time. But if you have nothing better to do with yourself, go ahead and watch it. 4. Take your movie stub to the dollar theater located by Costco in Orem 5. Finally, enjoy UNLIMITED free movies at this theater. That's right, I said UNLIMITED FREE MOVIES at the dollar theater. I know this sounds to good to be true, but it is oh so true. I have done it, and it works. Last night, we watched a free Indiana Jones from this movie ticket. It was amazing. The movie Take is pretty worthless, but the reward is priceless. Ok, so on to the bad discoveries of the week. I have recently become aware of the advantages and disadvantages that tag along with...
