No. That is not what I said

While visiting my family for the holidays, I had a long conversation with my grandmother who lives with my parents. As a brief background, she is getting old. Fast. She is losing her hearing, vision, and mind.

She tends to spend the majority of her days in her room. The only time she leaves is when she eats and poops. During my visit with her, I said the following: "Grandma, you know you can come out to the living room whenever you like, it's good to have you there." Something more or less like that.

The next day my mom confronts me and says "GINA! Grandma is SO excited that you invited her to come stay with you in UTAH!"

WHAT?

No.

I did nothing of the sort. I cannot house her. I have no bed for her, no food for her, no time, no no no. Not that I don't care about her, but no. I wouldn't be able to have her live with me for any period of time. All I can do now is hope she realizes she's too ill to leave her cozy little home right where she is.

Oh man, that is HILARIOUS! I had something similar happen with my grandma, whose problem, I think, is not so much hearing as making assumptions. When Jeff and I were dating, my grandma and I had a long conversation over Christmas, from which she took that Jeff and I were engaged (we weren't). So she announced my "engagement" in her Relief Society. The next Sunday, back at BYU, a girl whose mom was in my grandma's ward also announced my engagement in my BYU ward . . . yeah, it was awkward. Our bishop came up and congratulated us and everything, and I was just thinking, "Oh, Grandma, I said no such thing." It was especially embarrassing when we really DID get engaged about 3 weeks after that, and everyone in the ward was like, "Really? Is it for real this time?" Grandmas are fun, huh? I wonder if she'll really come visit you.

Cake 2.0

Here is our second attempt at fondant covered, decorated cake. We're still working on getting things smoother looking and stuff. It's a chocolate cake with caramel filling. Unfortunately the caramel didn't turn out quite like it was supposed to. It turned into basically sugar. It's probably because I was lazy and used margarine instead of butter. But it's still sweet and that's what's important right?

Going Away Present

Tomorrow is going to be my last day of work at good old Independent Study. It's kind of sad, but also kind of exciting and scary all at the same time. It's sad because I've been here for so long. This is the longest I've ever had one job, and I have made a lot of really good friends here. It's exciting because I will get to have a lot of time off to do whatever I want during the day! And it's scary because I don't have another job lined up yet. After 6 months of applying and interviewing, I'm still none the better for it. I was lucky enough to have one co-worker who cared enough about me and my departure to give me a going-away present.
