Proclamation on the Family and LDS Peoples

So, I have made an amazing accomplishment this past week. I have succesffuly memorized the ENTIRE Proclamation on the Family. Don't worry, I didn't just do it out of boredom, it is actually an assignment for one of my classes. It is in fact, worth as much as the final exam. The crappy thing is, that every other teacher who teaches this class, make memorizing the Proclamation OPTIONAL. Oh no, mine is definitely MANDATORY. It's worth 1/5 of my grade. But I have done it, and will recite it tomorrow to my TA. Wish me luck!

While studying this Proclamation, I also came across some news articles that made me really angry, so here comes my venting section. The Presidency of the Church has sent out a letter asking Latter-day Saints to take an active position against legalizing gay marriages. I know this is especially an issue in California. Gay marriages being legal is a direct attack on principles that the Proclamation talks about. Seeing that the Proclamation is a huge part of our Church now, you would think people who are active LDS people would know it and accept it. But it seems that many people do not. I read a few articles of some LDS people over in California (both gay and not gay) who are infuriated that the Church DARE stick its nose into politics and other's lives. How DARE THEY! One man even commented about how he was asking his entire family across the state to get up and walk out of Church the moment they read the letter over the pulpit. I just don't understand this type of thinking, and it gets me really angry when people start blatantly attacking Church authority. What could they possibly be thinking!?!? You don't ATTACK the PROPHET! He's the PROPHET!!!! For goodness sakes! He has jurisdiction over the entire church. And he definitely has the right to guide the church in how to preserve our families! I just can't believe that there are so many church members who refuse to follow the prophets councel when it has to do with something in their personal lives. You cannot be a cultural mormon only, without following the Lord's servants!
This same type of thing happened a couple General Conferences ago when Sister Beck (the Relief Society General President) talked about how to make a good home. She said we needed to cook and clean. She said we should be the best mothers in the world. Sadly, many women got very upset at this and said they shouldn't be told that they should have to clean house and live a boring life. A website was even created to attack her talk! How do people think that this is okay? I just don't understand! That talk was approved by the First Presidency!

I think overall, it just makes me really sad when I see people's complete lack of faith in the Gospel and it's leaders. It also makes me really glad for the strength and testimony that I have so I know I will not be so easily swaded.

First of all, I figured that I would finally comment on your blog so that I can officially do it and not stalk you.... gah. ANYWAYS!

I completely agree with you. Call me crazy but I feel that if you are a member of the Church (and you can't call yourself a member, you actually have to BE a member) then you would put the Church above all other inclinations/issues/etc. I don't know... call me Molly Mormon or crazy or straight... but that's what I feel about this issue.

And congrats on memorizing the entire Proclamation! Good for you :)

Curb Appeal Galore

This post is to document the journey our outside of our house has been on over the last few years. A lot of these projects I took on this summer, and a few I did earlier. I am so happy with where we are currently at, but still have some plans before it's finished. So, here is what it looked like the day we bought the house. Seven years ago. Don't let the "grass" fool you. It's just weeds. And the ugly brown window trims paired with the ridiculously old glass in the windows and the green brick with maroon grout. Not too pretty. We have since painted the door, trim, and replaced the windows. Also replaced the porch light and house numbers.  This spring we also had a new concrete half circle driveway installed. We live on a busy street and our front yard is useless and our driveway is tiny. So now we have much more functionality, less weeds, and overall happiness. After the driveway was installed, I also ripped out the rest of the grass and installed some decorative...

Going Away Present

Tomorrow is going to be my last day of work at good old Independent Study. It's kind of sad, but also kind of exciting and scary all at the same time. It's sad because I've been here for so long. This is the longest I've ever had one job, and I have made a lot of really good friends here. It's exciting because I will get to have a lot of time off to do whatever I want during the day! And it's scary because I don't have another job lined up yet. After 6 months of applying and interviewing, I'm still none the better for it. I was lucky enough to have one co-worker who cared enough about me and my departure to give me a going-away present. I don't really know why I'm sharing it with you, but here it is: This is the picture he used as a reference to update mine with: Any resemblance? It took him two days to create this picture. He said I was wise enough to become a General Authority. I told him I would have to be a man for that. So he decided to mak...

A couple of days of randomness

I have a couple stories from the past couple days I thought would be fun to share. Yesterday I had a job interview!!! It is for my boss's job at Independent Study. She is having a baby, so I want her job. We shall see how that turns out. After the interview I was waiting in the parking lot for Jarom to come pick me up. While I was waiting there, a lost traveler asked me for directions to the Wilkenson parking lot. I told her to take a right out of the parking lot, then a right at the stop light, and blah blah blah. She thanked my and proceeded on her trek. I then became aware of why she was lost. She took a left out of the parking lot. Not a right, a left. I said right. One left does not equal two rights. It must be hard to get places if you get your lefts and rights mixed up. Poor lady. Yesterday we also decided to drive up to view an apartment that is for rent. We are getting kicked out of ours since our landlord's daughter wants to live there. It is kind of funny cuz m...
