This last week Jarom and I were able to participate in a very special and exciting celebration. We drove out to Oregon to see my Grandma get married! There was lots of family there that I haven't seen in awhile so it was nice to spend time with them. Jarom and I stayed with my aunt and uncle and cousins, and Jarom was able to take advantage of the "bond" most guys have of video games to hang out with the boys.
So Grandma didn't want anyone to make a big deal out of this. She didn't want decorations or presents or a big turnout or to have to walk down the aisle or anything like that. But the rest of her family and friends didn't agree! So there were decorations put up in secret, presents and cards given, friends who came, walking down the aisle, and cupcakes made for dessert. Even their car got decorated! You see, this is proof that no matter what age you are, your wedding is really not for you. It's to make everyone else happy! The morning of the wedding my aunt Donna let me help her decorate the cupcakes, and I thought they turned out cute, but I didn't get a picture.
Here's a picture of the happy couple.
My part in it was to play the piano.
I played some prelude music for about 15-20 minutes before everything started. When I sat down to play, I knew that she was still not planning on walking down the aisle, so I didn't plan on anything for that. Then, when they signaled me that they were ready to start, I stopped. I thought I was done. Then I looked over my shoulder to the back of the room where my dad and grandma stood, and he started nodding at me. I didn't know what he wanted at first. I then realized he wanted me to keep playing, but for what? I don't know! So I turned back to the song I had just been playing, Fur Elise, and started that again. And then the flower girls started coming down the aisle, followed by my dad escorting his mom. So I ended up playing a very non-traditional song for the aisle walking, Fur Elise. But who can blame me? I didn't know what was going on! Haha.
Then the ceremony started and I accompanied a singer who sang "Where Love Is." That is all my grandma had asked me to play, but I had a secret plan to bust out with the Wedding March as soon as they were pronounced husband and wife. So I stayed at the piano and waited for them to get done. Waiting for those magical words. And then the Bishop finally said "I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may now kiss the bride!"
Here's a picture of that.
Which quickly moved to this.
So here was the moment I was waiting for! So I started paying with big loud chords of the Wedding March. And I think I scared the Bishop because he hadn't been expecting it. And then he said "Wait, wait! I have one more thing!" So I stopped. And then he had them exchange rings. And then he said to the audience "I present to you Mr. and Mrs. Vogle." Then to me "Ok I'm done now." So then I started over and played it again as everyone cheered. Oops!
So here are some more pictures of people after all of that.
Part 2 of this post will come soon...probably. It starts the day after the wedding when we drove up to Washington for a few more days before coming home.
